Hunting is an ancient tradition and an integral part of our cultural heritage. The ancestors of today's human populations ensured our survival by hunting for food and clothing.
Today hunting is still an important activity for
millions of people around the world. For many, it is still an important method of food gathering. For others, hunting is a recreational activity that provides an opportunity to further friendships and camaraderie, an opportunity to experience nature and relax in the outdoors and to make an important contribution to conservation.
Responsible hunters support the many rules that have been established to ensure that our wildlife populations are sustained and that hunting remains a safe activity.
The Ontario Hunter Education Program is administered by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources in partnership with the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters.
In 1960, Ontario became the first Canadian province to establish a mandatory Ontario Hunter Education course that included training on safe and responsible hunting.
The Ontario Hunter Education Program will assist you to understand the natural world and become a knowledgeable and responsible hunter. The program provides introduction information about:
The program also reinforces the firearms safety information contained in the Canadian Firearms Safety Course.
New hunters of all ages must take hunter education training and pass an exam before they can purchase their first hunting licence.
More than one million individuals have successfully completed hunter education training.

The Saturday class will run from 8:00am - 8:00pm and will be a mixture of lecture and movies. It will be a long day full of information.
There will be an exam at the end of the class which will probably start at around 7:00. It generally takes between 30-45 minutes to complete however, some require extra time.
The class is scheduled to run until 8:00pm but often runs slightly later. Please plan your evening accordingly.

Ontario Hunter's Education Program Course information for
students:
- Please make sure you are on time.
- Bring a pen; a manual is provided.
- All participants are required to bring 2 pieces of ID with them to class.
This can be pretty much anything but usually would be a drivers licence, PAL,
health card, passport etc. - IF you have already taken your PAL course, you do not have to attend Friday
night, PROVIDED you have the paperwork proving you took the course (NOT just
challenged the exam). This form came from the Chief Firearms office and has a
stamp "FSESO" on it. Your PAL instructor will have also filled in the course
completed section and not crossed it out. The actual PAL card does not prove
